English Language Teaching Institute is a state level teacher training institute under SCERT, Rajya Shiksha Kendra Bhopal. The Institute was established in 1964; mainly with a view to impart training to elementary, secondary and higher secondary school teachers of English and preparing instructional materials for teaching English. Miss Charlotte Reid, the founder Director, was the guiding spirit in accelerating and gearing up its activities and thus bringing it to the present shape.
Aims and Objectives of the Institute
• To
conduct in-service training programmes for teachers of English at the Primary,
Middle, High School & Higher Secondary Schools in M.P. To organise short
term, orientation and long term in -service programmes. To organise workshops,
seminars and other innovative ELT programmes for the teachers of rural and
tribal areas in the state.
• To
organize door-step programmes in the far- flung rural & tribal areas of the
State.
• To
prepare the syllabus and textbooks for different levels of learners and to
review existing syllabus and textbooks.
•To
provide academic support to the Board of Secondary Education in the preparation
of syllabus, textbooks and model set of question papers.
•To
monitor and evaluate the impact of the training programmes.
•To produce teaching and learning materials for the use of teachers teaching English at different levels.
